Connect to Talent – a project for study and career guidance

Information about the project
Connect to Talent was a project for study and career orientation beyond common gender stereotypes and has been based at the ServiceCenterStudium of the TUD Dresden University of Technology since February 2024. It supported young people from year 7 onwards in finding their way in gender-atypical fields of study and careers, discovering and strengthening their own talents and critically questioning common gender roles. Female students with STEM interests and students interested in humanities or social science departments were particularly targeted.
The project was tested and implemented in Dresden and the regions of Meißen, Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains, Bautzen and Görlitz in 2024 and 2025. A total of around 170 young people took part in four rounds. In addition, around 600 parents were sensitized to unconscious stereotypes and around 500 pupils actively explored their strengths and career prospects in workshops.
The four areas of activity in the project
Connect to Talent comprised four areas of activity. Each degree program lasted around four months and offered encounters with role models, insights into degree programs and regional companies, excursions to research institutions and empowerment workshops on strengths, decision-making processes and professional role models.
A particular strength of the project was the involvement of students and the TU Dresden alumni network. Over 70 students accompanied the young people on visits to lectures, laboratories and seminars, gave them a tour of the campus and answered questions about their studies. In addition, more than 20 graduates opened up their companies or research institutions for taster days and gave authentic insights into gender-atypical study and career paths. Many of the young people remained in contact with each other after the end of the project and continued to use the network that had been created.
A continuation of individual areas of activity that have been tested is planned.
