On January 22, 2025, TU Dresden held its first Branchentreff on the topic of sustainable industry. With around 155 student participants and 35 practice partners, the event was a complete success and an important milestone in raising awareness of the challenges and opportunities of sustainable industry.
In his welcoming address at the opening of the Branchentreff, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Schmidt, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, emphasized the importance of this future topic for industry and our society. He also presented the Faculty's ongoing research and development projects, which focus in particular on sustainable production processes, resource efficiency and innovative technologies in technical logistics. His presentation gave the students valuable insights into current developments and showed how the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering is actively contributing to the transformation towards a sustainable industry.
The Branchentreff offered participants the opportunity to gain exciting insights into companies' sustainable solutions in presentations: Toni Freude from UKA Umweltgerechte Kraftanlagen GmbH & Co KG, for example, presented the contribution of a regional energy park developer to energy security. ads-tec Energy presented its car fast-charging technology, which has won an environmental award. Michael von Papen, Head of Development at Pharmatec, highlighted the challenges in resource-intensive process and packaging technology. Martin Schroeder from ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH, on the other hand, promoted hydrogen as a key future technology without which the energy transition in Germany cannot succeed: "We believe in hydrogen!" Freya Hadwich from the TU Environmental Initiative brought the presentations to a thought-provoking close with her contribution to the problem of greenwashing.
In the Career Café that followed, students were able to discuss career prospects with practice partners, find out about jobs and network with like-minded people. This year's Branchentreff once again succeeded in building a bridge between science and practice.
The positive response underlines the relevance of the topic of sustainability and shows that the industry get-together is a successful format for sharing knowledge and generating enthusiasm for a sustainable future.
We are already looking forward to the next Industry Get-Together in January 2026!
