Become a Writing Tutor (SHK/ WHK) at the Writing Center
The Writing Center at TU Dresden (SZD) is looking for new writing tutors from all departments: Apply by March 10 at the latest for the qualification in summer semester 2024 and become a writing tutor (SHK/WHK) at the Writing Center from winter semester 2024/2025!

What is it like to work as a writing tutor?
- As a writing tutor, you advise students on planning, writing and revising their texts during their studies (seminar papers, theses, dissertations, etc.). Get a more detailed picture at: What is writing advice?
- In addition to writing consultation, writing tutors can also help shape the other services offered by the Writing Center. You can find all current offers for students on our website.
- A prerequisite for working as a writing tutor is participation in the writing tutor qualification, for which you will also receive a certificate.
- After successfully completing your qualification, you will be employed as a student assistant (SHK/ WHK) for 5 - 10 hours per week at the Writing Center within the Center for Continuing Education; we will discuss the number of hours in the application or introductory interview.
- During their work at the writing center, the writing tutors are accompanied by reflection meetings, exchange their experiences in the writing consultation meeting, can participate in further training and thus continuously develop themselves further.
- The Writing Center supports students with various services in academic reading and writing and advises teachers on writing didactics. We are currently a team of three lecturers and two WHK. Good teamwork is very important to us and we will of course take your study and family commitments into account.
What should I bring with me?
- You speak German at native speaker level.
- You have a keen interest in reflecting on your own writing and exploring different approaches and writing methods.
- You have empathy and enjoy supporting other students in planning, writing and revising their texts.
- You enjoy working in a student team.
- You have already written your first papers as part of your studies.
- Ideally, you are still studying at the TUD for at least four semesters.
- You can schedule time for the qualification for writing tutors.
How can I apply?
- up to and including March 10.
- with a letter of motivation written in German (1-1.5 pages) as a PDF by email to (Please introduce yourself briefly and explain why you would like to take part in the qualification and work as a writing tutor at the Writing Center).
- starting from March 11 an application or introductory interview may take place at the Writing Center, Mommsenstraße 6. (Presentation costs cannot be covered.)
How does the qualification process for writing tutors work?
Content
As a future writing tutor, you will receive in-depth training to prepare you to support students in their writing processes:
- You will acquire the basics of process-oriented writing didactics,
- reflect on your own approach to writing an academic text,
- deal with the individual steps and challenges in the writing process,
- expand your knowledge of writing strategies/techniques,
- build up a toolbox of methods,
- learn how to provide writing advice and
- practise consultation and discussion techniques.
You will be introduced to working as a writing tutor step by step through shadowing, practice consultations and intensive support in reflection meetings. A writing tutor reports on her qualification on the blog jjederkannschreibenlernen.wordpress.com.
The qualification is completed with a certificate.
The details of the qualification process will be presented in the application and introductory interview.
The qualification is held in German.
