Im Workshop zum Thema "Gute Betreuung von Abschlussarbeiten in den Naturwissenschaften" mit Dr. Nils Cordes am Montag, 19.09. (9-16 Uhr) und Dienstag, 20.09. (9-12 Uhr) sind noch Plätze frei. Die Teilnahme ist für Angehörige der TU Dresden kostenfrei. Content of the workshop
Supervising a thesis means offering students the support they need to plan, execute and complete the work. At the same time, students should retain enough freedom and responsibility to ensure that the project remains their own. It's a difficult balancing act.
In this workshop, we will discuss and practice supervising and communicating with students through discussions, simulations, and group work. The workshop will teach how to support and motivate students, especially when writing their thesis, what forms of feedback can be given, and how to "stay in the loop" with students.
Objectives
- Become familiar with and utilize various forms of feedback on student progress
- Communicate expectations and demands to students
- Distinguish relevant from less relevant aspects of the final paper and provide feedback that encourages revision
Methods
- Keynote speeches and discussions
- Group work
- Simulations
Please bring to the workshop: If possible, bring a few pages of a recent student text (e.g., the introduction to a thesis, the proposal, a preliminary evaluation) on which you would like to provide feedback for the exercise.
Registration via the continuing education catalog by Sept. 16
