With the certificate program "Microelectronic Engineering" of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering , the TUD offers a unique opportunity to acquire skills in one of the most important branches of industry in a scientifically sound and at the same time practical way from the summer semester 2026.
The program teaches both basic and in-depth knowledge of semiconductor technologies, chip design and system performance. It is aimed at specialists from the semiconductor industry who want to expand their skills in a targeted manner and qualify for current and future requirements in the semiconductor industry, as well as students.
Thanks to the modular structure, participants benefit from maximum flexibility: the entire certificate can be completed as well as individual modules for specialization in a targeted manner.

Target groups
- Professionals with a recognized university entrance qualification and relevant professional experience in the semiconductor sector who want to refresh or deepen their knowledge.
- Graduates (professionals) with a university degree in a STEM degree program (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) or a degree from a state or state-recognized vocational academy in a STEM degree program who would like to expand and deepen their knowledge in the semiconductor field
- Students in STEM degree programs at TUD who would like to expand their knowledge in a targeted manner in the field of microelectronics.
Structure and contents
The certificate program consists of various modules and has a modular structure:
The module consists of two basic modules and four in-depth modules.
Basic modules:
- Microelectronics technologies
- Electronics assembly and connection technology (Capacity limitation: 20)
Advanced modules:
- Microsystems for microelectronics
- Plasma Technology
- Hybrid integration (Capacity limitation: 20)
- Semiconductor Technology / Process Integration
Places in modules with limited capacity are allocated by lottery. The matriculation and examination regulations of the TUD apply.

Places in modules with limited capacity are allocated by lottery. The matriculation and examination regulations of the TUD apply.
The Performance module teaches soft skills that prepare participants for their career entry and is offered each semester in coordination with the Career Service. Essential aspects of relevant presentation techniques, writing scientific and technical texts, AI-supported writing and successful project management techniques are taught.
Participants who complete the certificate program alongside their regular degree program must select a total of three courses for the certificate program (one each as part of modules 1 and 2 and one additional course) from the Career Service program. All other participants can optionally take part in events in the Performance module.
Objectives, organization, content, structure and procedure are defined in the regulations of the certificate offer "Microelectronic Engineering".

Admission requirements:
- General or subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification and proven professional experience in the semiconductor sector (for school-leaving qualifications from abroad including a letter of recognition from a recognition body in Germany https://www.schule.sachsen.de/anerkennung-von-abschluessen-4791.html) or
- a first professionally qualifying university degree recognized in Germany in a STEM degree program or a degree from a state or state-recognized vocational academy in a STEM degree program or
- Enrollment in a STEM degree program at the TUD Dresden University of Technology
- Applicants who have not acquired their study qualification at a German-speaking institution require German language skills that qualify them to study at a university. Proof can be provided by the German Language Test for University Admission (DSH) with an overall result of at least DSH 2 or an equivalent language certificate.(Matriculation regulations of the TUD)
Note on application: The selection of modules and modules is made after the application and the introductory event.
At the welcome event for participants in the certificate program, the structure and options of the program will be presented in detail, and questions about the program will be answered.
Participation fees
- For participation in the certificate program (modules 1 and 2): EUR 6,000 and a semester fee of EUR 338.00 per semester
- For participation in module 1 or 2: EUR 3,000 and a semester fee of EUR 338.00 per semester
- For participation in individual modules: Amount depends on the number and scope of the modules
Exception: No fees are charged for participants who are enrolled in regular degree programs at the TUD parallel to the certificate offer and do not already have a first university degree recognized in Germany in a STEM degree program or a degree from a state or state-recognized vocational academy in a STEM degree program. The same applies to participants who are enrolled in a Master's degree program at the TUD parallel to the certificate offer.
Degree
The certificate program opens up internationally recognized degree opportunities:
- Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS):
Degree after successful completion of at least 30 ECTS from all modules (for students incl. performance) or - Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS):
Professionals and graduates can complete a module (Chip Technology or Chip Design) in a targeted manner and receive a CAS TUD in the respective field.
