The September Alumnus of the Month is an expert in nanophysics
Dr. Matthäus Mittasch came to Dresden because he wanted to study in an international Master's degree program. He was attracted by the fact that nanobiophysics was offered entirely in English, and the combination of physics, materials science and biology was very inspiring.
Today, he works in an international biotech start-up company that was originally founded in Dresden and Boston and now has even more locations. He conducts research on "small molecule drugs" - novel medicines based on biomolecular condensates. This scientific revolution had its beginnings in the laboratory of Prof. Tony Hyman at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics.
His tip for students: „Look around at what really inspires you, maybe take classes that aren't part of your official curriculum if you know they're great. Go ahead and get your hands dirty, I've always learned the most when I was working. Try to get a job in the lab as early as possible, it will tremendously help you to apply what you have learned."
