Not afraid of new things

The alumnus of the month for May comes from the field of computer science. Dr. Hendrik Strobelt can hardly use the subject matter taught today, as things are changing rapidly in computer science. What has remained, however, are important fundamental principles: "No fear of new things, abstraction as a core competence for computer science and a holistic view of problems," he says, looking back. Today, he lives and works in America and is currently a Senior Research Scientist at IBM in Cambridge, researching artificial intelligence. How AI makes decisions is one of the questions that occupy him. One goal, for example, is to break down tasks for large AI models into smaller programs that can be run on a laptop.
