Course Content and Objectives
The mindfulness courses provide a solid foundation for sustainably strengthening personal resources, better managing stress, and developing a mindful attitude in everyday life. Through mindfulness-based exercises, meditations, and practical content, participants are supported in recognizing their psychological patterns, consciously reflecting on personal habits, and developing sustainable strategies for dealing with individual challenges.
A central goal of the courses is to foster resilience, reflective capacity, and empathy—in personal, professional, and academic contexts alike. Participants learn how to strengthen their interpersonal skills through conscious self-awareness and mindful communication, enabling them to act with greater composure and clarity.
The courses combine theoretical knowledge, based on current research, with practical exercises that can be directly integrated into everyday life. Topics such as stress management, burnout prevention, dealing with difficult emotions, and systemic and sustainable thinking are covered. The learning process is supported by a variety of materials, such as audio recordings, podcasts, and practical tools, which facilitate continuous personal development.
Whether in a professional setting, everyday student life, or a school context—the mindfulness courses lay the foundation for personal growth, professional development, and value-driven action.
Target Audiences
The courses are designed for various target groups: faculty and administrators, staff members without teaching or leadership roles, pre-service teachers, and students in all departments. Based on the evidence-based programs Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living (MBCL), the formats are specifically tailored to the needs of each target group. Depending on the target group, we use the customized MSP, MTP, and MEP formats from the ABiK project.
Our Multiplier Courses Starting in the Summer Semester of 2027
Participants in the basic course have the opportunity to be trained as multipliers. The courses are aimed at the following target groups: teacher education students, faculty members, and administrators, as well as employees without teaching or leadership roles. The advanced course spans two semesters and combines theoretical and practical fundamentals with pedagogical knowledge regarding the structure and implementation of a curriculum or individual elements to further teach mindfulness. The focus is on implementing one’s own practical project or teaching unit. Facilitators integrate mindfulness practice into university culture by guiding small groups of staff and students in designated mindfulness spaces or areas.
Background
In everyday university life, both staff and students may face a variety of challenges that are associated with increased stress and mental strain. To strengthen mental health and provide early support to the university community, students and staff will have the opportunity to qualify as mindfulness multipliers starting in the summer semester of 2026. Since December 1, 2025, the University Health Management Office has been collaborating with AOK PLUS on this initiative as part of a prevention project.
Together with you, we would like to build a network of certified mindfulness multipliers at TU Dresden and establish a broad foundation for mindfulness programs. The foundation for this is the ABiK concept developed by the Center for Teacher Education and School Research at the University of Leipzig, which focuses on developing self-awareness, empathy, and a sense of responsibility against the backdrop of perceived interdependencies. The concept encompasses the development of these competencies across the dimensions of individual, social, and ecological mindfulness. The focus is on the individual as an employee and student, on fellow human beings as colleagues and fellow students, and on society in the context of our healthy university and leadership culture: individual—social—systemic. The project aims to emphasize the importance of self-awareness—specifically, the recognition of automatic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior. The goal is to break free from automatic reaction patterns and achieve behavior that promotes health, is sustainable, and is more self-determined on individual, social, and ecological levels.
