Subject orientation
In component A, you can attend introductory courses from a variety of degree programs at TU Dresden. This gives you the opportunity to experience different teaching formats and to strengthen your academic knowledge.
During the Orientation Program, you can choose from courses across almost 50 bachelor's and Diplom degree programs, plus an additional 4 teacher training programs (selection from 29 subject areas) at TU Dresden. Whether you're interested in natural sciences, engineering, humanities, or social sciences – the program gives you the chance to explore different fields of study and make a well-informed decision about your academic future.
The study programs can be freely combined in an individual timetable.

At the end of the semester, you also have the option to take exams (this applies to non-restricted degree programs). Successfully passed exams can be credited toward a future degree program at TU Dresden – helping you begin your studies with more confidence and less pressure.
A sound and solid knowledge of mathematics is important for a number of degree programs in engineering, mathematics, natural sciences and economics. You may be asking yourself the question: "Can I even do this"? In order to close any gaps in your knowledge, we offer mathematics lectures and exercises that are specially tailored to the needs of prospective students . They cover topics that are often only covered as optional subjects at school and at the same time introduce you to university learning.

The online preparation courses give prospective students and first-year students the opportunity to determine their current level of knowledge and to close any gaps in their knowledge at their own pace, regardless of time and place.
The courses are aimed at prospective students and students who are studying at least one of the two natural science subjects (mathematics, physics, computer science) as a basic or minor subject; student teachers; all engineering courses, distance learning students in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

You want to find out if the study programmes electrical engineering or mechatronics are suitable for you?
With our online self-assessments, you can find out whether your individual skills, interests and expectations match the requirements and actual content of the study programmes. Through smaller, subject-related tasks, you will gain an insight into the respective course of study. We will give you specific details of any prerequisites you may still be lacking and offer you suitable further training and advisory services.
Every year before the start of the winter term, the School of Science organises prepartory courses in the subjects chemistry, physics and mathematics for first semester students.
The bridge courses serve the immediate study preparation of prospective students of engineering, economics and natural sciences by repeating and deepening essential parts of the curriculum. The courses consist of lectures and exercises and are coordinated as far as possible so that it is possible to take several courses.
Participation is open to all (enrolled) first-year students whose course of study includes physics, chemistry or mathematics as a subject (OPAL access is partly required). Participation is free of charge. However, please note that all courses are taught in German.
