German language requirements
International applicants and German applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification are kindly advised to read the requirements for German-language courses.
General information about the degree program
The TU Dresden is the only university who offers a bachelor degree course in Civil Engineering for distance learning.
This provides the optimal way to combine training and professional activity with each other.
Next to the corresponding scripts (printed and electronic) e-learning documents (including course videos) are offered as study material.
After each semester you are asked to pass written and oral exams. The dates will be announced in due time. Consultations can be arranged individually.
With individual study plans it is for each student possible to arrange the study as a function of prior knowledge, flexible in sequence and amount of time.
The mentioned standard period of study has to be seen as a benchmark value.
In the compulsory modules of the first six semesters, students first acquire the mathematical- scientific and technical basis.
They complete their theoretical knowledge, methodological skills and acquire skills in scientific working techniques:
• Building design,
• Building physics,
• Mathematics and computing in construction,
• Mechanics and strength of materials,
• Construction materials,
• Geodesy,
• Projective geometry,
• Environmental protection within civil engineering,
• Experimental physics and
• Building chemistry.
In the compulsory modules of the subsequent semester, the subject-specific fundamentals of civil engineering are taught.
The modules base on the mathematical- scientific and technical basis and on the other side they give complementary empirical knowledge.
For this the student should expand his theoretical knowledge on the civil engineering targeted and expand its methodological skills in scientific working techniques:
• Mathematics and computing in construction,
• Structural analysis,
• Reinforced concrete construction and building with prestressed concrete,
• Steel-girder construction and timber construction,
• Geoengineering,
• Municipal engineering and traffic,
• Construction management and
• Hydraulic Engineering and Hydro science.
The study is completed with a bachelor thesis (circumference 180 hours)
Furthermore, students are able to individually adjust the order of the programme according to their previous knowledge.
