Admission requirements
Graduates of a Bachelor's degree with at least 180 credit points from the area of Civil engineering or a degree from a university of applied sciences with at least eight semesters standard period of study in the field of Civil engineering.
German language requirements
International applicants and German applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification are kindly advised to read the requirements for German-language courses.
Notes on the application process
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80% of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. General information about the degree program
The course of study consists of four semesters. In the first two semesters students have to attend units of their specialisation. The specialisation has to be chosen at the beginning of the studies. Possible specialisations are:
• Construction Engineering,
• Construction Management,
• Urban and Traffic Engineering,
• Hydraulic Engineering and Environment,
• Computational Engineering,
• Building Energy Management.
Depending on the specialisation, units of the following areas will be taught (selected units).
• Construction Engineering: Steel Constructions, Bridge Engineering, Timber Construction, ...
• Construction Management: Project Development, Concrete and System Building Construction, Business Management, ...
• Urban and Traffic Engineering: Urban Planning, Road Engineering, Railway Engineering, ...
• Hydraulic Engineering and Environment: River and Dam Engineering, Inland Navigational Engineering, Hydropower Plants, Coastal Engineering, ...
• Computational Engineering: Software Systems, Numerical Dynamics, Structures Under Extreme Conditions - Storms and Earthquakes, ...
• Building Energy Management: Property Management, Building Climate Control and Building Energy Management, Glass Structures, ...
In the third semester students have to work on a particular topic in their field of specialisation. The task is formulated by the responsible institute of the faculty or by an external partner in cooperation with the institute. Within this “project work” a report has to be written followed by an oral presentation about the task and the main findings during a colloquium.
During the last semester a research oriented diploma thesis has to be prepared, presented and defended.
