Guidelines for Applications for W3, W2, and W1 (Junior) Professorships

The application documents provide the appointment (or, in the case of junior professorships, the hiring) committee with a first impression of the scientific career and potential of an applicant for a professorship. Therefore, the written application should include a detailed presentation of the professional and scholarly career. For this purpose, in particular, the following information in a clear structure is helpful:

Academic Status

• Title | academic degree | position | field of responsibility

Professional Qualification

• Degrees

• Additional specialist qualification(s)

• Experience in leadership and management

• Area of responsibility

• Special knowledge and focal areas

• If applying for a junior professorship: indication of the duration of the doctorate and employment, giving periods employed as scientific staff or academic assistant

• If applying for a professorship with tasks in educational science or subject didactics in teacher training: information on teaching practice at a school

Research

• Scholarly qualification

• Topics of past work and current research foci

• International connections | collaborations

• Participation in (international) research networks or similar, stating position and area of responsibility

• Possibilities for integration into existing research networks and focal areas at TU Dresden

Publication Activity

• Publication list indicating authorship (first author, senior author, co-authors) and publication outlets

• Metrics common in the respective field for bibliometric analyses

• If applicable, current publication projects in progress

Third-Party Funding Experience

• Statement of total amounts of previous and currently available third-party funding, indicating the funding agency, research partners, your own role in the project, your independently responsible share of the funding volume, and transferable third-party funds

• It is recommended to present past and ongoing research project funding in a tabular overview

Teaching

• Overall teaching experience: courses taught (period, topics and formats, e.g., lectures, practical courses, seminars, summer schools, etc.)

• Experience with special teaching formats, e.g., problem-oriented learning model or e-learning; supervision of thesis and qualification works

• Participation in, e.g., the development of degree programs or similar

• Activities in continuing education and professional development

• Own training, e.g., in teaching didactics

Miscellaneous

• Memberships in and activities with scientific societies and committees

• Experience in academic self-governance

• Scholarships, prizes, awards, patents, etc.

Please bear in mind that these are general guidelines. For some professorships, more specific documents, e.g. the submission of publications or references, may be requested, so the respective job advertisement determines the more specific content of the required documents.
