Climate Action Plan Unanimously Approved - Implementation Begins Now

The TUD’s sustainability strategy clearly sets the direction: By 2035, the university’s operations are to be greenhouse gas neutral. But what levers does the university itself have at its disposal? Where are changes needed, and who can drive them forward? TUD’s Integrated Climate Protection Plan identifies where action is needed and which measures are important right now.

The plan was developed through a participatory process. At a future workshop in January 2026, members of TUD contributed their perspectives and ideas.

A key finding from the greenhouse gas inventory: The largest emissions come from procurement, energy supply, and mobility. At the same time, important prerequisites for climate-friendly buildings and a sustainable heating and energy supply lie, in part, outside the university’s sphere of decision-making authority.

The Climate Protection Plan identifies 22 prioritized measures, including more sustainable procurement, more climate-friendly business travel, greater energy efficiency, and the expansion of photovoltaic systems. Where the TUD can act on its own, it should take responsibility. Where decisions rest with external stakeholders, the university intends to clearly articulate its interests and actively drive change.

The Senate and the University Executive Board have each unanimously approved the Integrated Climate Protection Plan 2026. Implementation is now underway: a climate protection management system will guide the next steps and make progress measurable.
