May 21: Meet the luminary under the conifer / Manfred Curbach: A New Age for Construction – Opportunity and Necessity
The building sector is currently responsible for around 25 percent of CO2 emissions and 50 percent of material consumption. We are unable to build less due to growing populations and urgent housing shortages (both in Germany and worldwide) – so we need to change how we build. To transform our building practices, we need new materials, constructions, manufacturing processes and much more. One small component in the future of construction is carbon concrete, which one of the leading scientists in this area, Prof. Manfred Curbach, will examine in greater detail.
Civil Engineer Prof. Manfred Curbach has held the Chair of Concrete Structures at TUD since 1994. He is a luminary in the area of carbon fiber reinforced concrete. He has been involved in and continues to play a decisive role in numerous fundamental research projects investigating this novel building material as well as the transfer of research findings to construction practices. He has already won many awards for his achievements, including the German Future Prize – the Federal President’s prize for technology and innovation – in 2016, an honor he shared with Prof. Peter Offermann and Prof. Chokri Cherif.
This event will be held in German and sign language interpretation is available on request if needed. To help us cater to your needs, please inform us two week before the event should you require interpreting services. Thank you very much.
The event will take place under the pavilion behind Rainforest House I. There is signposting to help you find your way to the event. You do not need to register in advance. The event may be canceled if there is heavy rainfall.
This event is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Free State of Saxony under the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments as part of the “TUD in Dialogue” project.
