Highlighting diversity and critical reflection: Awards for diversity-sensitive teaching 2023 awarded
For the sixth time, the annual prize for diversity-sensitive teaching at TU Dresden was awarded. The aim is to honor teaching staff and/or teaching concepts that deal with the topic of diversity or its individual dimensions in the sense of the TUD's Diversity Strategy 2030. As part of the funding from the Excellence Strategy, a total of 10,000 euros in prize money was awarded at the award ceremony in the Senate on August 9, 2023.
Until the end of May, all members of TU Dresden were called upon to participate with proposals. At the award ceremony, the Prorector for University Culture, Prof. Roswitha Böhm, and the Prorector for Education, Prof. Michael Kobel, emphasized the great importance of teaching formats that sensitize students to diversity and diversity in everyday university and social life and referred to the qualitative gain for teaching through the integration of diversity-sensitive aspects.
This year, the prize money was awarded in equal parts to each of the three winning courses.In addition, the selection committee decided on two honorable mentions.
The 2023 awards went to:
Elena Bogdanzaliew (Center for International Studies) for the course Fundamentals of Asylum and Residence Law
Prof. Dr. Elena Hassinger (Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat - Complexity and Topology in Quantum Materials) for the seminar The Big Bang Theory syndrome: Why should we care about stereotypes?
Peggy Germer + Team Berufsbegleitende Qualifizierung von Lehrkräften an Grundschulen in Sachsen (ZLSB) for the Hybrid Workshop Work - An Open Teaching-Learning-Concept for Prospective Teachers at Elementary Schools
The jury's honorable mentions went to the following seminars:
Prof. Dr. Carsten Junker (Chair of American Studies with a focus on Diversity Studies): Wars I Have Seen - Armed Conflict in North American Culture
Dr. Christopher A. Nixon (Department of Political Science): Art and Democracy
