Artistic research on Energy Cultures in Transition: Call for Applications for the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2027

In April 2027, the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden—a joint project of the TUD Dresden University of Technology and THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION—will enter its third funding phase (2027–2030, subject to the approval of funding). Under the overarching theme “Energy Cultures in Transition,” the project will examine how forms of energy and energy transitions shape—and are in turn shaped by—cultural practices, social values, power relations, environmental relationships, and visions of the future.

Starting in April 2027, the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden is once again offering a six-month artist-in-residence program. International artists or collectives working in media art, conceptual art, performance, and related fields are invited to apply with innovative projects by November 9, 2026.

The Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2027 includes a six-month fellowship. Artists receive a stipend of 3,000 euros per month. They have access to a studio on the TUD campus and the opportunity to network with researchers from TUD and the Schaufler Kolleg@TU Dresden. The artistic projects will be supported with a production grant of up to 10,000 euros. A solo exhibition at the University Gallery in the Görges Building is planned for the end of the residency in Fall 2027.

We are seeking dedicated international artists or collectives who:

• have a clear artistic vision,
• have experience in transdisciplinary work,
• show an interest in academic contexts and collaborative research,
• can work on-site (by arrangement), and
• can communicate very well in German or English.
