Digital anthropologist and NYT bestselling author Rahaf Harfoush visits Dresden
What does digitalization do to us - as individuals and as a society? How does it change our coexistence, how does it change our culture? More than ever before, the digital space means the dissolution of boundaries: both spatial and temporal. Information and ideas spread across the world at lightning speed. However, this applies equally to misinformation of various kinds. On the one hand, this fast pace and overstimulation are a great challenge for our mental health. On the other hand, we have the chance to gain knowledge and develop skills in previously unimagined ways.
The renowned digital anthropologist, New York Times bestselling author and strategist Rahaf Harfoush will be a guest in Dresden on October 19 and 20, 2023. In her lecture at the Kulturpalast entitled "Emerging Digital Culture: Invisible Aspects of Technology," she will address the invisible connections that lie behind digital cultures and technologies. She also will take a human-centered perspective on our digital future. A central question Harfoush will explore is how we can maintain our ethical standards for living together in the midst of rapid technological progress.
The following day at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum, Rahaf Harfoush will discuss with researchers from various disciplines how drastic changes in technology and the associated changes in society, so-called disruptions, can be transformed into opportunities rather than having a destructive effect. She will shed light on the role digital tools and multiple perspectives can play in this process. Rahaf Harfoush will be joined in this interdisciplinary discussion by the experts Solvejg Nitzke (TUDiSC, Disrupt! Research, TU Dresden), Elizabeth von Hauff (Fraunhofer FEP, TU Dresden) and Merle Emre (TUDAG, Dresden International University). Together, they will address the topic of transforming societies in an age of multiple crises.
Please note: Both events are held in English. Questions and contributions in German will be translated.
