“TU it NOW” – Sustainability Week at TU Dresden from June 19 to June 28, 2023
The time to act is NOW! At TU Dresden, sustainability and climate protection are key focus areas of research, teaching and campus design. From June 19 to 28, the university is dedicating a week and a half to this topic and is inviting all students and staff as well as the wider Dresden community to take part. TUD is organizing various events that shine a light on both the ecological as well as the social and economic perspectives of sustainability. The area in front of the “Alte Mensa” canteen (Mommsenstraße) will serve as the event’s central location, where Sustainability Week will also commence on June 19 at 10:30 am. The program includes workshops on eco-friendly parties, climate ethics and sustainable digitalization. Lectures will provide information on the mobility of the future, biodiversity and sustainable management. Plus, anyone who is interested is invited to take part in a speed networking event where you can speak with representatives from sustainability initiatives in Dresden and at TUD.
Join us on June 21 at 10:00 am at “Sustainability Breakfast – educational tidbits and talks about the future” to chat with experts in education, nutrition and sustainability. Then, at 11:00, “Claiming Campus” will begin. Together with designer Jonathan Radetz, participants will build chairs to serve as meeting places on campus and thus enable visitors to make the most of it and claim it as their own space.
The week will close on June 28 with a festive event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the EMAS-certified environmental management system. Since 2003, TUD has taken part in the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and has thus managed to effect great change in the way of environmental protection and sustainability. A highlight of the day will be the keynote speech by Prof. Anders Levermann from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. At 1:00 pm in the Schönfeld Lecture Hall, he will deliver his speech entitled “The convolution of the world: a liberal way out of climate crisis and growth dilemma.”
