Dresden Chemists awarded with the renowned Starck Promotionspreis 2016
On Tuesday, 20.09.2016, Dr. Martin Oschatz and Dr. Martin Heise received the prestigious “Starck Promotionspreis” of the Solid State Chemistry and Materials Research Division of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). The price was awarded at the annual conference of the Division held in Innsbruck from 19 - 21st September 2016.
The prize endowed by the company H. C. Starck, Goslar, is awarded every two years to the best dissertation on the solid-state chemistry and materials science. The prize was shared this year due to two equivalent works of exceptional quality comes along with a price money of 5000 EURO.
Martin Oschatz worked in the group of Stefan Kaskel as a Ph.D. student from October 2011 to April 2015. He developed nanostructured carbon materials for gas filtration applications and electrochemical energy storage. In 2013, he had worked for 2 months in the group of Prof. Gleb Yushin at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA). Since May 2015, Dr. Schantz works at Utrecht University supported by a Postdoc grant of the German Academic Exchange service (DAAD). In the group of Karin de Jong, he develops nanostructured iron/carbon catalysts for the selective conversion of synthesis gas to hydrocarbon molecules.
Martin Heise performed his doctoral thesis from October 2011 to June 2015 in the group of Michael Ruck. He established a novel resource-saving synthesis method, which can be used to prepare superconductors, nanoscale magnetic materials and ionic conductors, e. g., at low temperatures. Dr. Heise is now Project Manager at the Research Institute of Leather and Plastic Sheeting (FILK) gGmbH, Freiberg, and deals with targeted surface functionalization and thin coating of material surfaces for use in medical devices, flexible light-emitting diodes, leathers and films, e. g.
