Dresden Seniors' Academy launches extensive educational program during anniversary semester
On September 30, the enrollment begins for the Dresden Seniors’ Academy Science and Art (DSA) for the 2024/2025 winter semester. Almost exactly 30 years ago to the day in 1994, members inaugurated the educational curriculum of the newly established academy. The anniversary on October 21, 2024, will be celebrated with an official event. TUD political scientist Prof. Hans Vorländer will speak on the topic "What is the state of democracy - in Saxony and beyond," accompanied by music from violinist Katrin Wettin and her band.
DSA members again have the opportunity to choose from around 350 courses in the coming semester. With each course, they are able to consolidate their knowledge of science, business, art, culture, medicine, law, and history. Senior students can also find out more about how to use smartphones and tablets or take courses on creative image design with AI. Highly relevant topics will be covered in lectures on Saxony following the state elections, on research for the world of tomorrow and on the use of hydrogen as an energy source. Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa, August Christoph Wackerbarth and Traugott Bienert - historical personalities traditionally pique the interest of a number of members. Visits to the Old Printing Work in Dohna (German: Alte Buchdruckerei Dohna) or the Vehicle Test Center of TU Dresden are amazing on-site learning opportunities.
Creatively designed events bring our mature students together in their passionate pursuit of knowledge. Painting, theater, contemporary witnesses, writing, digital image creation, digital communication, video filming and a philosophical discussion group — the sky is the limit for the Seniors’ Academy.
Educational trips with Eberhardt TRAVEL are also in high demand. In the winter semester, travel enthusiasts go on tour to Chemnitz — the European Capital of Culture — and the Tübke Atelier in Leipzig, among other places. Finland, Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt are just some of the destinations of the trips on offer.
Enrollment begins on September 30 online and at the DSA office. The opening hours of the office in the Hygiene Museum (German: Deutsches Hygiene Museum) as well as further information on the program as well as all the terms and conditions can be found at www.tu-dresden.de/senior.
