Engagement for International Collaboration and Talent Development: TUD presented itself at GAIN Annual Conference 2025 in Boston

Jeremiah Peterson vom Alumni-Büro der TUD, Rektorin Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Alumni-Botschafterin Romy Frank und Peter Rosenbaum vom International Office gehörten zu den TUD-Repräsentant:innen auf der Konferenz.
Continuing its strong commitment to fostering international exchange and academic collaboration, TUD Dresden University of Technology participated in the German Academic International Network (GAIN) Annual Conference 2025, held in Boston from August 29 to 31, 2025. TUD’s presence at the conference was highlighted by panel contributions from Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger on a variety of topics designed to inspire dialogue, provide guidance, and forge connections with scholars worldwide, while TUD’s information booth highlighted Dresden’s vibrant research ecosystem and career pathways. GAIN is the largest annual career fair and networking conference for German researchers abroad, aiming to strengthen connections between German academia and scholars worldwide, highlight career opportunities in Germany, and foster international collaboration.
Professor Staudinger remarked: “The GAIN Conference again provided an inspiring environment for exchange with outstanding postdocs and researchers from around the world, with many participants coming from America’s foremost universities in the greater Boston region. I am delighted that TUD can showcase its strengths here and connect with world-class talents who are shaping the future of science and society. The openness, interest, and energy at GAIN this year was palpable, and made participation a true enrichment.” Through the panels she was able to share key insights and experiences to an audience of postdocs and newly-minted PhDs looking to chart their pathway toward a German professorship at TUD or fellow universities of technology.
Simultaneously, individual advising opportunities staffed by members of TUD’s International Office and Alumni Relations Office offered a welcoming information point for participants. For the first time, GAIN opened itself to non-German postdocs and PhDs, and a special free English-language program was offered on Saturday, August 30, 2025, to engage this broader audience of scholars primarly from the Boston area.
A TUD alumni meet-up also occurred on Friday morning, where former students and community members from the Boston area connected with TUD leadership, exchanged experiences, and reinforced their ties with their alma mater—even from abroad. The meet-up was co-hosted by Northeastern University, one of TUD’s partner universities in the U.S. Romy Frank, TUD’s Alumni Ambassador from Vanderbilt University and organizing representative for North America on TUD’s International Alumni Council, explained further: “Our alumni event once again demonstrated the strength of the Dresden community worldwide. Our alumni are not only a source of pride for TU Dresden, but also a key foundation for future collaboration and exchange. We’re very happy to provide the first impulse for future organized alumni meetings here!” An alumni group for Boston is already being formed as an after-effect of TUD’s appearance.
TUD’s engagement at GAIN 2025 exemplifies its ongoing status as a University of Excellence, with a mission to nurture global collaboration and empower researchers at every stage of their careers. GAIN participant Peter Rosenbaum, Head of TUD’s International Office, shared, “Through our offerings like our Welcome Services, Dual Career support, and Graduate Academy, TUD was able to clearly show that we facilitate seamless transitions for incoming researchers, and we were able to highlight the unique and compelling advantage of Dresden as a global academic destination.” Whether through thought-provoking talks, supportive counselling, or alumni networking, TUD at GAIN 2025 was again able to show its clear commitment to building an international scholarly community rooted in excellence, innovation, and connection.
