Gender equality as a driver of success: TUD ranks top in the latest CEWS ranking
TUD Dresden University of Technology has taken the top spot among Germany's technical universities in the latest ranking by the Center of Excellence Women and Science. With top marks in five out of six evaluation categories, it underlines the effectiveness of our university's Equality Concept. One of the categories is the promotion of women throughout their scientific careers.
The ranking pays special attention to the representation of women who are doctoral candidates, academic staff or postdocs, which at TUD is over 40 percent in each case. TUD has shown steady progress in recent years, with the proportion of women among academic staff and professors continuing to rise.
Prof. Roswitha Böhm, Vice-Rector University Culture emphasizes:
“Our success in the 2025 CEWS ranking and the 2030 Women Professors Program confirms that we are on the right track. They are an expression of our concerted commitment to a university culture that promotes both diversity and equal opportunities. As part of the 2030 Women Professors Program, TUD’s Equality Concept for Parity convinced reviewers with the considerable progress already achieved, and further impressed with its ambitious action plan for the coming years In the areas of activity University Culture and Governance, Academic Career, Studies and Teaching, Research and Technology Transfer and Quality Management, TUD is ambitiously pursuing its equality goals with 52 impact-oriented measures.
About the CEWS ranking
The CEWS Ranking, published by GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, is a widely recognized tool for quality assurance in gender equality at German universities. The CEWS ranking follows the cascade model, in which the proportion of women at each career level is assessed in relation to the level below. The CEWS ranking uses the Federal Statistical Office as its data source and is published every two years. The current ranking uses data from the year 2023 as its basis.
