The Summer School is named after Henry Arnhold (1921–2018), Honorary Senator of TU Dresden.
The Henry Arnhold Dresden Summer School at TU Dresden has been awarded around EUR 500,000 in funding by the Brüder Stiftung, a foundation established by the Arnhold family. This ensures that the continuation of the successful interdisciplinary program for early-career scientists and museum professionals.
“I am so grateful that we have once again received such generous funding,” says Prof. Hans Vorländer, Director of the Summer School, which was established in 2012. “The extensive support provided by the Brüder Stiftung makes it possible to maintain the Henry Arnhold Dresden Summer School as an inspiring venue for academic and cultural discourse. Henry Arnhold felt particularly attached to this project, as it reflects his vision of building bridges between people, institutions, and ideas. His visionary civic engagement continues to shape the close collaboration between TU Dresden and Dresden's cultural institutions to this day. In keeping with his guiding principle, ‘Continue to Build Bridges,’ we will strive to integrate scientific knowledge with practical applications and cultivate meaningful dialogue across cultures and disciplines in the years ahead.”
In the fall of 2025, the Summer School will focus on the highly topical issues of democracy and freedom. In cooperation with the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden, and other partners, the focus in October will be on key challenges, historical developments, and current debates.
The Vice-Rector Research of TU Dresden, Prof. Angela Rösen-Wolff, adds, “The renewed generous support for the Henry Arnhold Dresden Summer School by the Brüder Stiftung emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary and international discourse in research and culture. This program exemplifies the bridges that connect science with society, the past with the present, and local institutions with global perspectives. At TU Dresden, we are proud to be able to organize such an inspiring and forward-looking program together with our partners from Dresden's cultural institutions. It is not only a place for academic discussion, but also for societal responsibility and cultural understanding – very much in the spirit of Henry Arnhold, whose name and legacy bring this Summer School to life.”
Since 2012, the Henry Arnhold Dresden Summer School has brought together young researchers and museum professionals with Dresden's art and cultural institutions to discuss current topics in culture and society. The Summer School is named after Henry Arnhold (1921–2018), Honorary Senator of TU Dresden, whose philanthropic spirit, and close ties to his birthplace of Dresden continue to inspire collaboration between the city's cultural and scientific institutions.
