"Mathematics is the art of avoiding arithmetic": "Hot Seat" with mathematicians
Are mathematicians particularly good at mental arithmetic? Or do they prefer to use a calculator? In the new episode of “Hot Seat,” researchers from the Faculty of Mathematics talk to us about the most common math clichés and are put to the test when we ask them to solve a few problems.
Is there still stuff to discover in the world of math? Do mathematicians have a favorite number? Is math actually just an auxiliary science? And to how many decimal places can TU Dresden doctoral candidate Johann Beurich – better known as the YouTuber DorFuchs – recite pi? Check out the video to see what our mathematicians have to say.
On “Hot Seat,” TU Dresden’s staff, students and alumni answer burning questions submitted by our Instagram community. Each episode focuses on a different group of people who all have something in common – be it that they share the same workplace, same degree program, or same research area. Every Wednesday, we release a new video on both of our YouTube channels: Discover TU Dresden (TU Dresden entdecken) and Try TU Dresden (TU Dresden probieren).
