Sparking enthusiasm for electrical engineering with bits, bonding, and basslines: 3B Festival is a creative approach to tackling the skills shortage
Partying and networking at the 3B Festival.
Many innovations are based on electrical engineering, such as the development of chips for smartphones, robots, and vehicles. Germany urgently needs more students and skilled professionals in electrical engineering. For years, the Chair of Circuit Design and Network Theory (PSN) at the TUD Dresden University of Technology has been promoting this goal through various innovative formats designed to appeal to young people. As a local partner, the team led by Frank Ellinger will once again host the 3B Festival of Electronics on Friday, June 19, 2026, starting at 7:30 pm at Stromwerk Dresden (Kraftwerk Mitte), one of Saxony’s largest clubs. “3B” stands for “Bits, Bonding, Bassline.” The event is organized by the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE).
The bands JANIZ, SHITSHOW, and PUNK ALLEE, together with DJ ROB LAFÊTE, make up the lineup (for more information visit https://3b-festival-2026.eventbrite.de or read the flyer). The program also includes Backstage Bonding, student pitches, company pitches, Pogo Bonding, and more, creating a relaxed environment where participants can connect directly with leading companies. Admission is free for registered guests. The event is open to students, doctoral candidates, friends of electrical engineering, and adult pupils from STEM-focused schools.
Thanks to support from industry sponsors, free admission for up to 2,000 participants, a set number of complimentary drinks, and several buses from German universities are being funded. Nearly 20 German universities are partnering up in the event.
As long as capacity remains available, free tickets can still be obtained for the event. Anyone interested in receiving free tickets must register at https://3b-festival-2026.eventbrite.de (or via the QR code on the flyer). The minimum age for attendance is 18 years.
