Modern facilities to ignite the start-up ideas of tomorrow: Inauguration of the TUD|excite Space and TUD|excite Innovation Hub

At the opening from left to right: Sarah Haaß (TUD|excite), Prof. Andreas Pinkwart (Director TUD|excite), Prof. Heike Graßmann (State Secretary from the SMWK), Thomas Kralinski (State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection), Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger (Rector), Jan Gerken (Chancellor), Nicole Römer (TUD|excite).
The TUD|Excellence Center for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TUD|excite) of TUD Dresden University of Technology has opened the TUD|excite Space and the TUD|excite Innovation Hub in the Andreas Schubert Building. The TUD|excite Space provides TUD|excite teams with innovative facilities to work on excellent transfer services. It was created with the support of TUD knowledge architects and the interior design office ONWS. As part of the Excellence project, a unique New Work concept was developed and implemented.
On the occasion of the inauguration, TUD Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger emphasized the relevance of the TUD|excite Space: "In the future, all transfer and start-up support services will be pooled in the TUD|excite Space as a ‘one-stop store’ under one roof and in a central research and teaching building on campus. This includes all resources and support for potential entrepreneurs and business partners in order to set standards in technology and knowledge transfer that live up to our claim to be a University of Excellence. The TUD|excite Innovation Hub includes the SLUB and the Dresden Technology Center as key partners and is an essential addition to the DRESDEN-concept Science and Innovation Campus."
Thomas Kralinski, State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection, added: "This is where minds are put to work, ideas are born, and visions are realized. It requires the right location and infrastructure. I am delighted that the new TUD|excite Space will provide such a place in a central location on campus, offering all the services innovators and founders need, inviting them to launch creative new projects. That's exactly what makes TU Dresden one of the most productive hotbeds for ground-breaking start-up ideas in Saxony." During the current ERDF funding period 2021-2027 to promote structural development, TUD is currently cooperating with Saxon companies in 49 joint R&D projects, which the Free State of Saxony and the European Union are supporting with grants amounting to around EUR 22.7 million.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Michelangelo Masini, Head of Corporate Research and Technology at ZEISS, emphasized the importance of innovation and technology transfer, particularly in medical technology. In his opinion, transferring scientific findings quickly and effectively into practical applications can only be made possible through close strategic partnerships between industry and science.
Prof. Andreas Pinkwart, Director of the TUD|Excellence Center for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TUD|excite), highlighted the role of TUD|excite as a catalyst for innovation. The new New Work environment will allow for the various services to be offered in close proximity to each other in terms of space and processes, significantly shortening the pathways for innovators and transfer experts. Thanks to its central location on campus, TUD|excite offers the opportunity for close spatial networking with other providers in the innovation ecosystem such as makerspaces, design studios, open science labs and start-up spaces. This is what the TUD|excite Innovation Hub stands for, which was presented to the public for the first time on this day during guided tours and workshops.
