New exhibition project »Remembering the Future« in the Altana Gallery of TU Dresden and in other locations
Openings on 15 and 16 September 2017
What happens when you bring together artists and scientists, both of whom are intensely concerned with substances and materials, even in the figurative, intangible sense? For this project, collections and institutes of Technische Universität Dresden and non-university institutes and organisations of DRESDEN-concept e.V. opened their doors to seventeen invited artists.
Based on the question of effect and importance, functionality, practical application and handling of materials and substances – genuine artistic materials such as bronze, clay, wood, stone versus common and new materials such as fibre-reinforced composites or textile-reinforced concrete – sculptural, photographic, cinematic and installative artworks were created that show new, future possibilities of dealing with materials.
The Saxon and international artists who were invited to the project work in local residences, the Academic Heritage Art Collections (Roland Görgen, Christoph Rodde), the Historical Collection of Dyes (Matt McClune, Cindy Schmiedichen), the Institute of Concrete Structures (Amelie Marei Löllmann), the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (Johannes Makolies), the Institute of Forest Botany and Forest Zoology (Karen Weinert), TU Dresden, the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology (Bertram Haude), the Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden, the Museum of Mineralogy and Geology (Bertram Haude), the Museum of Zoology (Karen Weinert), the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (Johannes Makolies), and the Deutsche Fotothek (German Photographic Collection) in the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) (Jens Klein).
In addition to the gallery Ursula Walter and the Altana Gallery – the exhibition hall of the Academic Heritage – artworks by twenty students of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under the direction of Professor Barbara Wille, entitled "Wenn Sachen Sachen machen - Remembering the Future " ("When things do things- Remembering the Future"), are exhibited in the gallery Brühlsche Terrasse, showing the results of a contentual engagement with the Academic Heritage Art Collections.
