Open-Access-Flatrate
All you can publish: an Open Access flat rate as a pilot project with the publisher MDPI
Published articles in the so-called golden Open Access Journals are accessible for free for readers all over the world. In many journals, however, the authors have to pay article processing charges. If certain criteria are fulfilled, one can apply to have the charges covered by the SLUB (Saxon State and University Library Dresden) and TU Dresden using publishing funds. Now, it is even easier, and without the need for any application or charges for TUD scientists to publish their work in the 206 golden Open Access Journals with the publisher MDPI.
As part of a pilot project running from 1st July 2018 until 31st December 2018, all submissions from corresponding authors at TU Dresden will be published for free after passing the review process. Applying to have the publishing costs covered by TUD and SLUB is therefore no longer necessary. The authors are identified either by their email domain or they can alternatively choose “member of TU Dresden” from the drop-down list when submitting their work.
With this Open Access pilot project, the SLUB is testing the Open Access flat rate as the first partner institution of the Institutional Open Access Program. The SLUB considers the pilot project a contribution to innovative development of its Open Access services and a new dimension in the collaboration with Open Access publishers.
Working together with the SLUB, TU Dresden has established an Open Access infrastructure, which includes consulting services, examination of intellectual property and copyrights, the document and publication server Qucosa and Open Access publication funds.
