UN Day 2024: Examining Growth Prospects
With the theme "Prospects for Growth," a public event to commemorate United Nations Day will take place on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, from 6 PM at the New Town Hall, Rathausplatz 1 (Entrance Golden Gate). The evening is organized by the Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES), the TUD Dresden University of Technology and its Centre for International Studies, Lokale Agenda 21 for Dresden e. V. and the City of Dresden.
The organizers will address various questions, such as: Can growth be measured using methods that go beyond classical economic evaluation? How can sustainability aspects be better integrated? And what concrete actions can be taken at the municipal level to combine decent work and economic growth?
Traditionally, the Lokale Agenda Dresden Awards will be presented as part of UN Day, publicly recognizing local activities for sustainability. Interested parties are warmly invited to register at http://tud.de/bu/un-tag-2024. It is also possible to follow the event via livestream.
What is planned?
Following the opening by Jan Pratzka, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, Digitalization, Personnel, and Security of the City of Dresden, Professor Edeltraud Guenther, Director of UNU-FLORES, will report on the United Nations Summit of the Future. Following this, there will be an open panel discussion featuring Prof. Christian Leßmann, Professor of Economics at TUD Dresden University of Technology, Nina Treu, Co-Founder of Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie, and Johannes Zieseniß, Scientific Advisor of the Mission Wertvoll.
The Lokale Agenda Award Ceremony 2024 will follow. For the 25th time, the Lokale Agenda 21 for Dresden e.V. will recognize exemplary projects and commitments for sustainable development in Dresden.
The Duo Azind from Leipzig will provide the musical accompaniment for the UN Day event at the Dresden Town Hall. Additionally, the artist Georg Weyerer will present his installation titled "SEMPER ALTIUS SEMPER PULCHRIUS SEMPER PLUS", which means "Always bigger, always better, always more." He will also be available for discussions.
