Prof. Catherina G. Becker - Make Do and Mend: How to Repair the Spinal Cord
On May 19, world-class researcher Prof. Catherina Becker will introduce her research live at the TU Dresden's University-wide Inaugural Lecture. The lecture is open to the public and broadcast live online.
Every third Thursday during the lecture period, TU Dresden publicly introduces newly appointed professors from various disciplines with the "University-Wide Inaugural Lecture". They exemplify many of the approximately 600 professors, whose contributions to research, transfer, social discourse and the promotion of young academics are constantly helping to further develop TU Dresden into a globally visible university of excellence for the 21st century.
The event on April 19 is dedicated to Prof. Catherina G. Becker. As of 2021 the neurobiologist holds the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Professorship "Neuronal Developement and Regeneration" and conducts research as a research group leader. Her academic career has taken Prof. Becker to ETH Zürich, University of California (Irvine and Santa Barbara) and University of Edinburgh, among others. Further funding prizes and awards, e.g. Fellowship of the Royal Society for Biology oder der Suffrage Science Award, underscore Becker's commitment. In her inaugural lecture "Make Do and Mend: How to Repair the Spinal Cord", she will discuss the complex factors to heal nerve cells damaged by spinal chord injuries or neurodegenerative diseases - and the role of zebrafish in it.
The presentation will be held in English and will be accompanied by a reception.
