Prof. Michael Kaliske appointed to the National Academy of Science and Engineering
Prof. Michael Kaliske
The National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) has acquired Professor Michael Kaliske, Director of the Institute of Structural Analysis at TUD Dresden University of Technology, as a new member. He was elected as a member by the Academy's General Assembly at the behest of the Presidium.
acatech unites more than 600 experts from science and industry as the national academy and voice of engineering in both Germany and on an international level. The members are active in the fields of engineering and natural sciences, medicine, humanities and social sciences and are admitted to the Academy for their scientific achievements and reputation. acatech regularly publishes papers, studies, discussions and other writings on socially and economically relevant topics and advises politicians on issues relating to the future of technology science and technology policy.
Professor Michael Kaliske addressed his acceptance into the Academy: "I was overjoyed about being accepted into the ranks of the Academy. For me, being a part of the Academy is a significant step that opens up the opportunity to place my own scientific expertise in a wider social context and to help develop new perspectives."
Professor Kaliske has been the Director of the Institute of Structural Analysis at TUD's Faculty of Civil Engineering since 2006. His research is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach based on the methods of computational mechanics. Kaliske's research topics range from the fundamentals of structural mechanics and material modeling to practical engineering applications in construction and automotive engineering.
As their Speaker, Prof. Kaliske currently heads the Collaborative Research Center "Digital Twin Road." The coordinated, innovative and holistic fundamental research project is funded by the German Research Foundation and aims to develop a digital twin of the road-tire vehicle system in order to enable intelligent and sustainable use of the road traffic systems in the future.
