QS World University Rankings – TU Dresden among top 200 universities worldwide
The QS World University Rankings have been published today (8 June 2017): TU Dresden occupies place 195 and has for the first time reached the top 200 of the world's leading universities. With this result, TU Dresden has improved by 15 places as compared to the previous year's ranking and by as much as 67 places since 2014. According to the ranking agency QS, it now ranks among the leading one percent of all universities worldwide.
"It is a great success for our University of Excellence to be – for the first time ever – one of the top 200 universities worldwide", comments Professor Hans Müller‑Steinhagen, Rector of TU Dresden. "The enormous and continuous improvement over the past few years is an indicator for our strategy being on the right track and that our hard work has paid off. We were able to grow significantly in most of the ranking indicators."
This includes, for example, the increase in "Citations per Faculty", the indicator for the citations of papers published by TUD scientists. In this category, TU Dresden reaches the 4th place in Germany and thus a score of 79 out of a maximum of 100 points. This represents an improvement of 14 points compared to the previous year.
At TU Dresden, the overall ratio of international students per German student – the so-called "International Student Ratio" – is 1:14.5. This number shows that TU Dresden is attractive to international students and also meets the requirements for international enrolment.
The QS World University Rankings are a global university ranking, running since 2004. The QS team has analysed over 75 million citations from more than 12 million scientific publications and compares more than 4,000 universities. 980 universities have made it onto the ranking list.
In addition to the number and frequency of citations from publications, the focus of the evaluation is the prestige of the universities among scientists and business partners worldwide.
The British service provider in the field of higher education and career development QS not only uses statistics but also surveys among scientists and HR managers.
Published every year, the QS World University Rankings belong to the most influential international university rankings, alongside the Times Higher Education World University Ranking and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
