Collections at Lunch: An invitation to an entertaining tour through the university collections from the Office for Academic Heritage
Kickoff on April 13 with the Dye Collection
After a successful start during the 2022/23 winter semester, the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections is extending its “Collections at lunch” event series into the 2023 summer semester. Together with the collection officers, the Office for Academic Heritage invites TUD employees and students as well as all members of the public to tours, held every second Thursday of the month at 12:00 noon. Gain exciting and entertaining insight into the university’s collections and find out how these historical teaching materials and exhibits are used today.
To kick off the event series, Prof. Horst Hartmann will lead a tour of the Historical Dye Collection in the König Building on Thursday, April 13. One of TU Dresden’s most important collections, it contains over 1,500 plant-based and animal-based natural dyes, more than 20,000 commercial samples of synthetic dyes from more than 80 manufacturers arranged according to their chemical structure, as well as more than 2,000 color sample cards and numerous dye samples. The rooms which house the collection are a tour highlight in and of themselves – even today, the exhibit pieces are stored in specially designed historic stacks dating from 1928. These have stood the test of time and remain in an almost unchanged condition.
You will find the other tour dates in the calendar of events.
