Pupil Computing Center – A Fresh Start in the Facilities of the Faculty of Computer Science

Celebrate the opening of the new premises on September 23, from 4:00 pm

The Pupil Computing Center has relocated to the teaching facility for Dresden’s computer science students: at the Faculty of Computer Science at TUD Dresden University of Technology. These facilities guarantee ideal technical conditions for a diverse range of courses, allow for direct contact between instructors and students, and provide insights into the faculty’s research areas. The new facilities consist of three modern classrooms, including a dedicated computer lab and two classrooms equipped with mobile devices.

Working closely together, staff of the Pupil Computing Center and faculty from the Chair of Didactics of Computer Science developed new extracurricular activity topics, including programs that are more appealing to girls and also cater to those who are still discovering computer science for themselves. For example, there is a course called Code und Faden (Code and Thread) on creative work with a programmable embroidery machine.

TUD Dresden University of Technology's Pupil Computing Center offers school students a fantastic opportunity to put their technical knowledge to the test, learn something new from various fields of computer science, and to apply their knowledge. Over 100 school pupils take advantage of the courses offered each year.

The new courses cover three subject areas: Digitale Welt entdecken (Discover the Digital World) is aimed specifically at younger students (starting with the 5th grade) and is designed to spark their interest in computer science. Informatik plus (Computer Science plus) offers students in 7th grade and above the opportunity to explore topics in computer science that go well beyond the standard school curriculum. Vorbereitung Uni und Berufsorientierung (University Preparation and Career Guidance) offers courses that prepare children for a degree in computer science or for entering vocational training programs related to computer science.

The opening event will take place on September 23, 2026, starting at 4:00 pm, in Room 1004 of the Andreas Pfitzman Building, Nöthnitzer Str. 46. In addition to a tour of the facilities, the event will offer a glimpse into selected courses. Representatives of the press are also expressly invited.
