Summer Festival at the TU Dresden Botanical Garden – a wide variety of hands-on activities

Where to go on the last Sunday before school starts? Families and nature lovers will find an attractive destination at the Botanical Garden, where admission is free: At the traditional summer festival on August 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., local clubs and institutions will provide information about plants, animals, and nature. Children and teens can look forward to a wide variety of hands-on activities.

New among the 23 participating groups is the Dresden Working Group of the Central German Bonsai Regional Association. The members meet monthly to work on their trees together, discuss design options, and share experiences. Workshops with well-known bonsai artists are also organized regularly. Other participating clubs focus on orchid or reptile care, cacti or carnivorous plants, natural gardens, or active nature conservation efforts in both urban and rural areas.
In the interactive exhibition “Bakteriopolis,” visitors can immerse themselves in the hidden world of microbes. Anyone who wants to learn more about the legumes in their diet will find the Saxony Consumer Advisory Service booth the perfect place to start; at the Hahnemann Center in Meissen, visitors can make herbal salt under expert guidance. The Friends of the Botanical Garden will provide expert answers to a wide range of plant-related questions. While supplies last, they’ll also be offering herbal sandwiches and cakes, coffee, fruit juices, and non-alcoholic cocktails. And amidst all this, the Botanical Garden will also provide green oases of tranquility on the day of the event for anyone who just wants to “simply enjoy the plants.”
