Study taster: Apply now for the orientation program TU Dresden

Following its successful launch last winter semester, the TUD Dresden University of Technology is once again offering an orientation program for prospective students in the 2026/27 academic year. The program is aimed at all newcomers to the university who are not yet sure what they want to study. You can get a taste of different disciplines and find out whether a particular degree program is right way forward for you. A total of 100 places are available. Interested applicants can apply until August 15, 2026.
Experience university life and explore different fields of study
During the orientation program, participants can spend two semesters getting to know everyday university life at TUD and exploring different fields of study. They will have the opportunity to attend courses from a total of more than 50 Bachelor's, Master's, and teacher training programs, allowing them to reflect on their own interests, abilities, and goals.
The orientation program is complemented by academic and career guidance events, individual counseling sessions, and a range of support services designed to help students transition successfully into university life. In addition, participants will acquire important key competencies and gain insights into career prospects. This will help them make an informed decision about their future educational journey. A participant from the first orientation program explained: “The orientation program helped me get an idea of what I want to do.” Another participant described her experience as follows: “I discovered areas of interest that I had never imagined could become a possible field of study for me in the future.”
Application and participation
A university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) is required for participation. International applicants additional require proof of their German language skills. A total of 100 places are available for the upcoming academic year. You can apply from June 1 through August 15, 2026.
The program begins in late September 2026 with an orientation week.
Guidance before deciding on a degree program
TUD's orientation program creates a flexible bridge between high school and college. The program offers prospective students time and space to explore different disciplines, experience daily college life, and make an informed decision about their future studies. At the same time, the program aims to help reduce dropout rates and changes of major later on.
