After more than 20 years of existing cooperation, TU Dresden and the Brazilian Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI) have now officially renewed their Cooperation Agreement. Both universities emphasize the significance of their partnership. The interdisciplinary contract was signed by both University Executive Boards. On the part of the TUD, Prof. Antonio Hurtado, Chair of Hydrogen and Nuclear Energy, was appointed as the Academic Coordinator. Prof. Andreas Nascimento will assume this function on the Brazilian side.

The two universities already had a striving exchange last year. In June 2022, Prof. Andreas Nascimento visited TU Dresden on behalf of his University's leadership and held numerous interdisciplinary discussions with a view to intensifying cooperation in the future. The discussion focused on opportunities for student and faculty exchange as well as other formats for collaboration. Prof. Nascimento intensively discussed topics of a future energy supply with representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering. In November 2022, Prof. Hurtado traveled to UNIFEI in Itajubá.

"The Universidade Federal de Itajubá is one of the most research-intensive in Brazil. For example, a new hydrogen research center is currently being built there, which will strengthen our cooperation in teaching, research and transfer," emphasized Prof. Antonio Hurtado.

"We are very grateful and excited in renewing our cooperation with Technische Universität Dresden, one of the leading University in Germany. Throughout also the new hydrogen related initiatives, we may be able to introduce institutional representations in the partner university, intensifying the internationalization among teaching, research and transfer”, Prof. Andreas Nascimento added.

In the coming years, both universities would like to further enhance their collaboration. TUD and UNIFEI have been cooperating closely since 2002, at that time and for many years, guided by Prof. Dr. Maurilio Pereira Coutinho (UNIFEI), Prof. Dr. Horst Lazarek (TUD) and Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Hardtke (TUD). In 2017, as part of the Dresden Fellowship Program, TUD welcomed Dr. Artur César Fassoni, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Federal University of Itajuba in southeastern Brazil. During his 6-month research stay in Dresden, he was involved in the study of defense measures of the immune system in leukemia diseases.
