TU Dresden raises funds for three new Philipp Schwartz scholarships
Threatened researchers find new home for research
The Philipp Schwartz Initiative has now announced the results of its fifth call for applications. Once again, universities and research institutions in Germany will be given the opportunity to provide researchers who are at risk in their home countries with a full two-year scholarship from the Philipp Schwartz Initiative. TU Dresden has already been successful in the 2nd and 4th call for applications, and can now celebrate another success in this 5th round: Three further scholarship holders will begin their two-year research work in a safe working and living environment this summer. The three scientists from Eastern Europe and Syria will enrich the School of Engineering Sciences and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at TU Dresden.
“For me and my family, the scholarship is a great opportunity”, says Fatina Kourdi, scholarship holder from the 4th call for applications. Many TU Dresden institutions are involved in the preparation of candidates’ stays and are working at full speed. Over the next few months, a total of six Philipp Schwartz scholarship holders will be conducting research on campus and will have the opportunity to plan their careers after those two years.
The DRESDEN-concept Welcome Center @ TU Dresden is responsible for the application of TUD as well as for the handling of the project and supports the hosts and scientists. The employees of the Welcome Center are currently organising the entry process of all candidates and their families.
The Philipp Schwartz Initiative was launched by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation together with the German Federal Foreign Office. It enables universities, universities of applied science, and independent research institutions to grant threatened researchers fellowships for research stays in Germany. The initiative has been made possible through generous support from the Federal Foreign Office, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Stifterverband, and the Stiftung Mercator.
