TUD ranks top worldwide in “School of Engineering Sciences” – Prestigious QS Ranking re-confirms top position
In the renowned “QS World University Rankings by Subject,” TUD Dresden University of Technology has once again achieved outstanding rankings in several fields in both German and international comparisons for 2026. The results impressively demonstrate TUD’s breadth and depth of academic diversity: No other university in the Eastern German states has achieved so many top 10 rankings in a national comparison.
Among the top 100 worldwide
In the subject group “Engineering and Technology”—particularly important for a technical university—TUD improved its ranking by three places compared to the previous year and, at 94th place, ranks among the best universities worldwide. In the three individual disciplines of Materials Science (rank 35), Physics (rank 100), and Civil Engineering (rank 51–100), TUD is firmly anchored among the world’s top 100 universities.
One of the top ten universities in Germany – and strong across the board
In addition to a global comparison of 6,273 academic institutions, the QS World University Rankings by Subject also shows TUD’s rankings among the 72 institutions of higher education evaluated in Germany. In 13 of the 22 ranked individual disciplines, TUD has achieved a top 10 spot — including several engineering disciplines, architecture, physics, chemistry, computer science, environmental sciences, forestry, materials science, and mathematics.
About the QS World University Rankings
The QS World University Ranking by Subject, published by the British provider Quacquarelli Symonds, is considered one of the most important international rankings. It has been published annually since 2011. The rankings are determined by specific factors including academic reputation, citations per faculty and employer reputation according to widespread surveys of employers worldwide. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 comprise five subject areas with a total of 55 disciplines.
