Knowledge for Life: Dresden Science Night on the TU Dresden campus
TU Dresden is once again proud to be the largest organizer of the Dresden Science Night that will take place on June 30. From 5:00 pm right through until midnight, there will be a whopping total of 530 things to do and explore on the main campus in the Südvorstadt and on the campus in Johannstadt. “Knowledge for Life” is the motto that strives to attract visitors from all age groups and walks of life to witness firsthand the enthusiasm that all our scientists bring to their work in addressing the most pressing topics of our time.
The Auditorium Center will host three of TUD’s Clusters of Excellence, which will give you insights into their work over the course of the evening: PoL - Physics of Life, ct.qmat - Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter, as well as CeTI - Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop. And don’t miss our science slam, which starts at 11:00 pm in the Audimax. It’s up to the public to decide who explains their research in the best and most entertaining way!
Have a go, ask some questions, get inspired! TU Dresden will be covering seven major topic areas:
Mobility: What does the future hold for our daily travels? How can we avoid traffic jams? And can you manage to be on time in our train driving simulator? There’s a number of things to see at the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences and at the Vehicle Test Center of the IAD.
Health: How can artificial intelligence assist us in an operating theater? How do smell and taste actually work? And how can scientists develop groundbreaking therapies that may one day even help to heal damaged spinal cords? This and so much more can be discovered by you at the Faculty of Medicine on the TUD campus in Johannstadt and at the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB).
Climate and energy: What does the climate crisis entail for us personally and for society as a whole? What does it mean for our water supply and how can we create a climate-friendly and secure energy supply using innovative technologies?
Environment and nature: How do individual cells transform into whole life forms? What is so special about fish? And how can technology copy nature’s knack for finding new and creative solutions? For any night owls out there, we have a something special in store: Come and join us at 4:00 am on a “Trees by Night” tour at of the Forest Park Tharandt.
Culture and society: What is the purpose of philosophy and why do we need it? How do old cultural assets assimilate into modern digital media? And why are Sorbian legends still so fascinating to us?
AI and big data: Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence. But what exactly is it and how does it even work? How can it support us in our everyday lives and what are its limits? And what do we actually mean by big data?
Microelectronics, robotics and materials: Why are there microelectronics all over the place? How do robots learn to speak and express feelings? And how can new novel materials such as carbon concrete usher in a paradigm shift in construction, thereby ensuring lower emissions and resource consumption?
