Join us for a relaxed summer evening by the Elbe! Bring your own drinks, snacks, games, or anything else you'd like to share with fellow PhD students. The picnic is a great opportunity to meet researchers from different institutes, enjoy the outdoors, and take a break from everyday academic life.

🎉PhD Hiking Trip

Join us for a day of hiking through the stunning landscapes of Saxon Switzerland and Bohemian Switzerland National Parks! We will meet at 9:20 a.m. in front of the Ritter Sport statue at the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) and take the S1 train to Schöna together.
From Schöna, we'll follow the "Aufstieg zur Pravčická Brána – Seitenansicht des Prebischtors" route (Komoot). The trail crosses into the Czech Republic and leads through beautiful forests and impressive sandstone formations to the Pravčická brána (Prebischtor), the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. Along the way, we'll enjoy several panoramic viewpoints, including a spectacular side view of the famous rock arch, as well as scenic trails through the heart of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park.
The hike is approximately 11 km long with around 350 m of elevation gain, making it a moderately challenging day hike. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring enough water, snacks or a packed lunch, and weather-appropriate clothing. After returning to Schöna, trains back to Dresden depart every hour, so we are quite flexible.
