The Excellence Initiative at TU Dresden (2012-2017/2019)
In 2012, TU Dresden was able to assert itself in the Excellence Initiative of the Federal and State Governments and has since been carrying the title "University of Excellence".

In the second programme phase of the Exzellence Initiative (2012-2017/2019), TU Dresden was successful with its entire application package. It consisted of:
1st funding line: Graduate Schools
Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB)
2nd funding line: Clusters of Excellence
Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed)
Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD)
3rd funding line: Institutional Strategy
"The Synergetic University"
For DIGS-BB and CRTD, it was the second success in the Excellence Initiative, as both institutions were already funded in the first programme phase (2005-2012).
The Excellence Initiative ended on 31 October 2017. Until 31 October 2019, the Excellence Initiative institutions (Clusters, Graduate Schools and Institutional Strategies) received bridge or completion funding.
In the competition for the successor programme to the Excellence Initiative - the Excellence Strategy - TU Dresden was able to defend its title of excellence in July 2019.
The measures were funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments.
