My origins don’t fit into a box! And yours?
Review of the Diversity Days of the TUD 2025
This year's Diversity Days at the TUD took place true to the motto "Shaped by Roots, Spurred by Diversity". For one week, it became visible how individual to oneself origin can be and how it influences our biographies, opportunities and perspectives.
Diverse thinking - because origin can’t be pigeonholed into one category!
To kick things off, experts from academia and society discussed origin as a multi-layered part of our identity. The topics covered included
- emotional hurdles of first-time academics (Gina Nattke, P.E.A.C.H.)
- Experiences from East and West German biographies (Lisa Bendiek, Kulturbüro Sachsen e.V.)
- The role of origins in quantum physics and what inspiration you can draw from them personally (Farahnaz Sadidi, Chair of Didactics of Physics, TUD)
- Social attributions, linguistic observations and how we break through them (Simon Meier-Vieracker, Chair of Applied Linguistics, TUD)
The panel discussion made it clear that origin is neither clearly definable nor static. It accompanies us, but does not alone determine where we go.
Game of Origins: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (anKUNFT, herKUNFT, zuKUNFT)
The Game of Origins, developed especially for the Diversity Days, showcased how many perspectives come together in the term "origin". The playful engagement with the colourful Lego bricks encouraged many people to discuss their biographies, perspectives and privileges and allowed them to reflect on them.
Participate - have a say - help shape
As in the previous year, the universities’ public was invited to help shape the Diversity Days themselves. A call for participation received numerous offers from students, university groups and employees. We would like to thank everyone involved for filling the Diversity Days with life: through organization, commitment, workshops, discussions, projects and personal stories.
We are already looking forward to next year's Diversity Days, which will be full of new ideas, questions and perspectives.
