Knowledge creates space – occupying color and space
Location of the small studio in the northern part of the Großer Garten
The small studio stands in the northern part of the Großer Garten park like a foreign object in the landscape. This place is the starting point for the experimental investigations of color and material in relation to space. Since December 2022 and until the end of April 2023, students of HfBK Dresden, TU Dresden and artists have been presenting their installations here. The installations are also open to the public at the specified opening times and can be experienced during a walk through the Großer Garten.
Occupying Color and Space is part of the project Knowledge Creates Space of the Chair of Foundations in Art and Architecture.

The installation with the working title Billboard Hot 100 focuses on surface qualities in predominantly urban outdoor spaces. It reflects the appearance of billboards, advertising signs and house facades, which are in a constant process of change, in a reduced way. In addition to the phenomenon of layering and superimposition of colored surfaces, color relationships and spatial perceptions are investigated through the use of colored materials and colored light. The working title alludes to music charts, billboards and the ever-changing pop culture trends.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Free State of Saxony as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments. The exhibition was created in collaboration with EU4ART.
