Application and Selection Process – Bachelor’s Degree Program in “International Relations” (ZIS)
Would you like to apply for the Bachelor’s degree program in “International Relations” at the Center for International Studies (ZIS) at TU Dresden? On this page, you will find all the important information about the application and selection process, deadlines, required documents, as well as further details and contact information.
General Information
To allocate the 39 spots for the Bachelor’s degree program in “International Relations,” we conduct a two-stage selection process. The first part consists of the online application via Selma or uni-assist and the online selection process in Opal. The second part consists of a selection interview.
Admission to the program is only possible during the winter semester.
Please refer to the Study Information System (SINS) website for the admission requirements.
The selection interviews will take place digitally from August 4 to 11, 2026. Please keep these dates open. Appointments outside of this period are not possible!
Application Process
Step 1 – Online Application
Your application begins on the information page for the “International Relations”bachelor’s degree program in the Student Information System. There you will find the current application deadlines and additional information. Clicking “Apply Now” will redirect you via the application router to the appropriate application portal.
There are two application portals, depending on the country where you earned your high school diploma: selma and uni-assist.
Applying via Selma
Applicants who obtained their university entrance qualification in Germany generally apply through selma. After you have registered on the portal and submitted your application, you will receive an application number. Please note that the application deadline is July 15.

Applicants who obtained their university entrance qualification abroad generally apply via uni-assist.
The application period begins on April 1.
Please register in a timely manner, fill out the application form completely, and upload the required documents.
- Complete application process via the uni-assist portal
We ask all applicantsapplying through theuni-assist portal to submit all required application documents, if possible, six weeks before the application deadline, as the preliminary review of the documents takes some time.
These application deadlines apply to all applicants, including those who graduated from high school in previous years.
In addition, we ask that you pay the processing fee to uni-assist by July 1, 2026.
Step 2 – Online Selection Process via OPAL
In this step, you will participate in the online selection process via OPAL. If you do not yet have an OPAL login, please register first. Please note that the application deadline is July 15.

After you have submitted your application via uni-assist, we ask that you also register in OPAL for the online selection process and complete at least the questionnaire. (Step 2 – Online selection process via OPAL)
Deadlines and Dates
- Application period begins: June1 or April 1 (uni-assist)
- Application deadline: July 15
Applications are typically reviewed within 2 weeks after the application deadline. The Selection Interview
Based on the evaluation of the written application materials, the selection committee will invite 80–110 applicants to a selection interview. These interviews will take place from August 4 to 11, 2026, in a digital format. Invitations to the interview will be sent out one week in advance.
In addition to discussing the applicant’s personal motivation for applying, the interview will assess the applicant’s solid general knowledge with an international focus and address specific questions about the political systems of other countries or current issues.
Admission notifications will be sent out in calendar week 34. Please refrain from making any inquiries before this deadline has passed.
