Training at ZIH: Top of the Class in Application Development
Honoring the Chamber's Top Graduates of 2026: Tessa Todorowski, ZIH, is the top graduate in in application development
This year, a trainee from TU Dresden’s Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) achieved the highest examination score among trainees in the IT specialist apprenticeship program for application development in the Dresden IHK district: Tessa Todorowski was honored as the top-performing trainee at a ceremony hosted by the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) on October 29.
During her training at ZIH, Tessa had the opportunity to explore various areas of computer science and develop and deepen her own interests. A key focus of her training was her work with the energy efficiency group in the department of Distributed and Data-Intensive Computing. There, she received technical guidance and support throughout her path to successfully completing her program.
As part of her final project, Tessa developed the HET-Explorer, a web-based tool for visualizing energy measurements and their results. The tool imports measurement data from numerous individual files and presents them in clear tables, lists, and diagrams. Users can search, filter, and sort the results directly in their browser. This makes it easier to access the data and identify the results associated with individual experimental runs.
Tessa began her training at ZIH with a general interest in computer science. Over time, she discovered a particular interest in the low-level aspects of operating systems. The breadth of the training program gave her the opportunity to explore different fields and develop her own areas of focus. She particularly appreciated the collegial atmosphere and the freedom to organize her work, including the choice of operating system.
One piece of advice she would like to share from her training experience is: “Asking questions isn’t a bad thing. It’s better to ask one more time and really understand the requirements than to go through countless iterations trying to find a solution.”
After completing her final exams, Tessa moved to the department of Networks and Communication Services within ZIH. There, she now contributes to the further development of TU Dresden’s VPN service.
For the ZIH, this success is also a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the importance of its own training program. Given the shortage of skilled professionals in the IT sector, iattracting young people to these professions and providing them with a solid foundation is essential. It is particularly rewarding to see so many former trainees continue their careers at TU Dresden nd become colleagues after completing their training.
We warmly congratulate Tessa Todorowski on this outstanding achievement!
