European Middleware Initiative
The establishment of the "European Grid Initiative (EGI)" laid the foundation for a sustainable Grid infrastructure in Europe. In parallel, the EU fundet the European Middleware Initiative (EMI) - starting in May 2010 - to build a unified and compatible Grid middleware distribution for EGI. EMI is based on the major European middleware - ARC, dCache, gLite, and UNICORE. ZIH is responsible for the data management components of UNICORE and their interoperability with other middlewares.
