CampusConnectEd
Six universities, one campus
"CampusConnectEd - Sharing Innovative Education" is a joint project involving six German universities that aims to bring teachers and students together to create a campus that can be experienced nationwide. The project is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education.
Why we are networking teaching in a new way
Universities are increasingly faced with the challenge of reacting to social and technological changes. Limited resources, formal requirements and rigid curricula often make it difficult to develop modern, interdisciplinary courses. At the same time, topics such as digitalization, sustainability and active learning formats are becoming increasingly important. This is precisely where CampusConnectEd comes in and creates new scope through cooperation:
- Relief of resources for universities through a joint, innovative infrastructure
- Expansion of offerings and interdisciplinary exchange for students
- Flexible study structures through certificates and microdegrees as well as cross-university recognition practices
The teaching innovation project is fundamentally rethinking university teaching. Around 15 million euros in funding will enable new forms of joint teaching and learning to be developed and experienced throughout Germany.
The participating universities
Coordinated by Hamburg University of Technology, several universities are working together on a networked, future-oriented teaching architecture. Those involved are
- TU Hamburg
- Bauhaus University Weimar
- HafenCity University Hamburg
- RWTH Aachen University
- TUD Dresden University of Technology
- University of Stuttgart
What will be created in six years
Over a period of four years, with the option of a two-year extension, innovative, flexible and collaborative teaching and learning structures will be developed across universities for the acquisition of future-relevant skills, particularly in the area of sustainability. The following work packages will be implemented in tandems of two universities each:
- the further development of the SDG Campus into a low-barrier, multilingual learning platform with open self-study courses,
- the use of AI for individual learning support, automated feedback processes and language support
- new formats for virtual collaboration and social interaction,
- the creation of physical meeting spaces to complement online learning (focus at TU Dresden),
- the introduction of flexible certificates and microcredentials,
- as well as new practices for the recognition of academic achievements across university borders.
The work packages are supplemented by cross-cutting tasks in project management, quality assurance and media didactic training for teachers and students.
Who makes the project possible
CampusConnectEd is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching as part of the "Teaching Architecture" call for proposals. A total of 119 projects were selected nationwide, which will be supported over the next six years with a total of around 480 million euros - with the aim of sustainably developing studies and teaching.
