Rethinking Tutoring—with Peer Learning, Empowerment, and AI

TUTORIN:Grow is a joint project of ZiLL (Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching) and ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig at TU Dresden. The project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) and runs from April 2026 to March 2028.

Our goal is to sustainably improve academic success at TU Dresden and prevent students from dropping out.

To this end, we are further developing the tutoring program as an innovative, equitable, and AI-supported form of peer-to-peer support.

A special focus is placed on female students as well as students in departments with a higher risk of dropping out.

By combining expertise in education and AI, TUTORIN:Grow develops and tests new training programs, digital learning materials, and AI-supported tools. Tutors and students are actively involved in the design process.

Key areas of the project:

• Empowering tutors: We train tutors in teaching methods and didactics, as well as in the use of digital media and AI, and support them as advocates within their departments.
• Empowering female students: We strengthen self-efficacy and role clarification, create networking opportunities, and highlight female tutors as role models.
• Co-designing AI: As AI learning designers, tutors develop and test subject-specific chatbots and AI applications—even without any programming knowledge.
• Creating open educational resources: We develop AI-supported tools in Metis and provide freely accessible materials on peer learning, tutoring, and AI.
