Goals/Summary
There exists an abundance of institutionally-produced data about study conditions in individual subjects and subject groups which are included in official statistics or are published in reports (e.g. teaching reports). The hallmark of this data is, however, that it is only available in a scattered manner and is often not user-friendly. For quality assurance at universities there is a high demand for the systematic consolidation of these collections of data. Accomplishing this is the central goal of the university report for the assessment of study conditions in Saxony.
The official university statistics, whose data was sourced from the State Statistical Office as well as from the SMWK, form the database of quantitative indicators. Alongside indicators for instruction, indicators for research (e.g. third-party funding per professor, number of PhDs) are also incorporated. Their inclusion is due to the close connection between instruction and research. Beyond this, it was also necessary to compare these indicators to the indicator systems that were developed by the Hochschul-Informations-System GmbH (HIS) and the Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE) and to include the expertise gained through them. For the in-depth acquisition of study conditions, the quantitative figures must additionally be expanded through the perspectives of the students. In the first university report students were surveyed through an online questionnaire. A survey of students in Saxony took place once again in 2012 and therefore offers interesting opportunities for comparison.
